Ham Hill start group

Our 100th walk since we started in October 2007 attracted some 23 hounds from Dartmoor to Wiltshire and many places in between. It turned out to be more memorable than most - a minor epic some would say.

"Cardiac Hill" as Andrew dubbed it was remembered by some as a minor scramble up a modestly inclined slope, but Our Leader promised to investigate the installation of at least a rope way by next year.

Lunch was taken with the addition of a generous and surprising addition of a fine bottle of Prosecco kindly provided by Marcin and Kamila. Some of the party took an alleged short-cut from here back with Mark our Fudge King, though the way looked up-hill to me, but then these are often subjective.

The rest of us plunged into the woods to be faced with a surprising amount of mud, the deep liquid sort, that is almost unknown in Somerset, but Brave Hearts conquered all and we walked on.

At the road our old lady Jessica succumbed to a limp brought on by a thorn or possibly strain. (If it had been one of my hounds it would have been severely exaggerated with limp tearful eyes, but Guy assured us it must have been genuine.) Fortunately Nurse Dawn was on hand to tend the wounded. And a phone call to Mark now back at the start produced a promised ambulatory recovery.

So we pressed on to find a bit more mud but eventually all good things must come to an end and the Prince of Wales with its beer straight from the barrel rounded off a walk to remember.

Exmouth walk along the beach next month will seem rather tame after this. Perhaps.
