Basset Hound Walkers Tottiford reservoir

Tracks & bridleways round Tottiford Reservoir (led by Gay)

We last did this walk in November 2011: when Brexit was not even a gleam in anyone's eye and we still used ten bob notes . . .

This walk is on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park, north of Bovey Tracey, and I seem to recall that it was flat but still interesting, though the start was tricky to find. The walk is a trifle over 5 miles. SatNav reference is TQ13 9NS.

To find the start (10.30am):

Coming from Exeter: Take A38 – Exeter to Plymouth dual carriageway, about 3-4 miles past Devon & Exeter Racecourse take left turning signposted Chudleigh Knighton/Kingsteignton/ Teign Valley/Finlake , turn right at top of slip road. 200yds, on left hand bend, turn right signposted Teign Valley/Dunsford/Trusham/Christow (B3193 top photo right: beware of fast oncoming traffic). Continue 2 miles - turn left signposted Hennock.

Right fork to go thro’ Teign village continue into Hennock turning right at top of hill. Climb left handed uphill opposite the Palk Arms pub (see photo bottom). Continue 2mls or so to Bullaton Cross where there is a car park for Trenchford Reservoir ignore this and turn right continue onto to next X roads turning right and Tottiford Reservoir car park is on the right.

There are signs to the Reservoirs

Coming from Plymouth: take A38 towards Exeter - take turning marked Chudleigh/Teign Valley.  Left at top of slip road, taking right turn marked Teign Valley/Dunsford/Trusham/ Christow and proceed as previously directed.

Most of the roads are of typical Devon lanes – narrow with high hedges and blind corners. PLEASE take care

See you on the day.

This is supposed to be The Reservoir: no sailing, or drinking, today then.
