This six mile walk to cater for the Eastern fringe of the group is being run by Guy & Sarah Bridge to whom all queries should be addressed. Please contact them by email here.
The start point is at Knoll Down Car Park Grid Ref SU077692 – or map ref SN8 1QR (which is Beckhampton House, ¾ mile away. See below for map). This is on the south side of the A4 about ¾ mile west of the junction of A361 and A4. This is a combination of two walks.
The first one is very easy across open downland which form part of a racing stables. When there are no horses out on the gallops dogs are free to roam anywhere across a largely flat and open space. This ground is 'Permitted Access'
The second part contains a fairly steep and long ascent up to the ridge where we will see the Cherhill Monument; Cherhill White Horse and the remains of Oldbury Castle (Iron Age earthworks). This part is along public right of way. We will be able to adjust the walk as weather conditions dictate – the ridge heads are very unpleasant in bad weather!!
There isn't any shade (shade? this is January, Guy) or natural water on the walk so bring water for your hounds. Start 10.30am.
