Basset Hound Walkers Combwich Sept 2021

Hinkley Point

This will be a new walk for us from Combwich - pronounced Cummitch by the locals in case you get lost and need to ask the way. Walk leaders Mel and Mike who live there guarantee it is dead flat. We park by a children's playground next to the river Parrett in the middle of this village and then meander across to the coast and beach where there'll be good views of Hinkley Point C, Europe's largest construction site, and vast consumer of EDF and Chinese finance. (And our electric bills when eventually it goes live). By the way you won't need to bring any geiger counters for as far as we know there's no radiation arrived yet. The walk will be no longer than five miles.

How to get there.

From the south leave the M5 at Junction 24 at Bridgwater, follow signs to Hinkley Point on A39 to Cannington. (If coming from the north leave at J 23 and drive through centre of Bridgwater and follow signs as above). On the outskirts of Cannington don't take the by-pass but turn off right into Cannington village. In the centre go round a sharpish left hand bend then 100yds further on turn right to Combwich. (see pic 1). After 1½ miles turn right into Combwich (pic 2) and half a mile further you'll come against the river bank and playground. (pic 3) (SatNav TA5 2RA)
