We return to N Wilts a year after Guy & Sarah first ran this walk for us, but the route will be different.
This is a " flat six miler" around part of the largest inland lake system in Europe, following part of the Thames Path, and 'lunch' at a lovely village pub with a large enclosed dog proof garden.
Park in Village Hall car park and meet at the Bridges' house.
The start is 16 miles north of Junction 15 on the M4.
All queries direct to them please, email here.
To reach the start (10.30am):
From A419 (North or South), turn onto B4696 (Spine Road East) which is signposted to Ashton Keynes.
Continue along B4696 (Spine Road East) until you reach crossroads. Turn left (road is still B4696) signposted Wootton Bassett. After ¼ mile take left turn signposted Ashton Keynes ‘Village Only’ (road name is Cox’s Hill).
Ignore any Road Closed signs and follow the directions to Ashton Keynes.
Continue into Village along Cox’s Hill, through an ‘S’ bend. On your left you will see ‘White Hart Inn’. Turn left immediately after White Hart (road name Park Place).
Follow Park Place which bends around to right. Turn right and you will see Village Hall Car Park (see picture below), where you should park your cars.
Leaving the car park on foot, look to your left and you will see a high stone wall, opposite the junction. Cross over the junction and proceed to your right following the stone wall. The wall turns left into Fore Street, follow the cobbled path beside the wall until it ends by a lamp post.
Immediately by the lamp post is our driveway (The Old Coach House, Cove House Gardens SN6 6NS – 01285 862366).
We will all assemble in our front garden and proceed on the walk from there.
Please note: If it is wet, it will be very dirty - the geology around here is sand and gravel, so even light rain makes a muddy soup on the paths. Guy will rig up hot and cold outside taps in their back yard for those hounds that may need a sluice down before going to pub.
